Abolish Iowa's Broken Certificate of Need Law This site is dedicated to restoring the free marketplace back to its natural equilibrium, which will result in lowering healthcare costs for the citizens of Iowa. There are already sufficient state and national regulations in place to ensure the highest quality of health care. CON laws ignore the law of supply & demand. For example: Has the "uncontrolled expansion" of expensive burger restaurants led to higher priced hamburgers? On the contrary, never before have there been so many choices and now we see the double cheeseburger for .99 cents at major chains. Would this be possible if a Certificate of Need were necessary to open up a new restaurant? Is our expensive healthcare system any different? Conclusion: The high price of surgical procedures can be attributed to a shortage of Ambulatory Surgery Centers in the state of Iowa, due to the fact that Certificate of Need Laws have been used to protect hospital owned monopolies over the past 30 years.
